![]() I don't remember who it was, but I heard someone on youtube saying Teach Yourself and Colloquial are just glorified phrasebooks, and I agree. Or I might understand something without being able to use the expression, so in those cases I add them as well. So if I didn't get something on the audio, I'd check that on the book and add it to SRS. After a lot of trials and errors, trying to figure out how best utilize this stuff, I ended up adding sentences and dialogue fragments into Anki, while listening to the recording repeatedly. My knowledge of the two languages are mostly centered on reading abilities, so Assimil was a way to practice aural-oral aspects of the language. I was far from beginner in either French or German when I picked them up. That said, I never used Assimil the way it was intended to be used because.
